Evolution of design well told but I don’t agree with the last quote about decoration=beauty, minimalism=crap. Visual design has its own rules and serve product functionality and effectiveness. It’s not about beauty or ugliness. An Information design driven product can’t be ugly. Well designed information are always perceived as pleasant by the eye and the brain.
